Equinox Orloffs is owned and operated by Arik Engstrom, along with the help of his family. Founded in early 2018 after a spur-of-the-moment purchase of 14 Russian Orloff eggs from Ron Rector, Equinox Orloffs now strives to become a recognized breeder of quality Russian Orloffs.

Why Russian Orloffs?

Our breeds are chosen based on health and temperament. Russian Orloffs are an old breed of Persian origin with heavy Russian influence (hence the name.) Thanks to their abundant size, small cushion comb, and large beards-muffs, Orloffs are an exceptionally cold hardy breed. That works to their advantage in the blistery winters of upstate NY. Unlike many other cold-hardy breeds, Orloffs are clean-legged, their legs being long and brilliant yellow. This means they are able to thermo-regulate well, and thrive in our 80°F+ summers. An exceptionally robust breed that is not bothered by parasites or bacteria, Russian Orloffs are able to adapt to many environments and thrive easily.

Aside from impressive health, Russian Orloffs are also the friendliest breed we have ever worked with. Both roosters and hens gladly sit in our laps or on our shoulders, and get along extremely well in a mixed flock consisting of both bantam breeds and other large-fowl.

We are working to return the breed to its former glory while maintaining the health and friendliness that has made the Russian Orloffs a favorite of the whole family.
